Do You Have Two Faces?
He Who Has Ears to Hear, Let Him Hear What the Holy Spirit Says to the Church
Associate Pastor Mireya San
Do You Have Two Faces?
Are you one person when others are watching and someone completely different when no one is looking?
That is living by appearances. You may be able to hide certain things from people, but you cannot hide them from God. Sooner or later, what you try to conceal will be revealed.
The Word says:
“For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.”
(Mark 4:22)
Your behavior reveals who you truly are. Not only what you do inside the church, but also how you speak, how you treat your family, how you react when someone disagrees with you, and how you live when you think no one is watching.
You may deceive people with appearances, but God knows the heart.
God Knows What You Do
There are people who project an image of having fellowship with God while they are inside the church, but outside of it they live completely differently. They have learned how to behave around certain people, what words to use, and even how to appear spiritual.
But they have forgotten something: God sees everything.
Jesus said:
“I know thy works...”
(Revelation 3:15)
God does not only know the version of yourself that you present to others. He knows what you do when you are alone, what you say at home, what you think, and even the intentions behind what you do.
That is why living by appearances is useless before God.
The Day Will Come When Everything Will Be Revealed
You may deny what you are doing now. You may justify your words, hide your true intentions, or even convince others that you are right.
But Scripture warns:
“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.”
(2 Corinthians 5:10)
The question is serious: What will you say on that day?
How will you justify what you know today is wrong?
Here, you may convince someone with an explanation. You may deny what happened. You may change the story to make yourself look better. But before God there will be no need for appearances, because He already knows the truth.
That is why it is better to correct today what can still be corrected.
When Lying Becomes a Habit
The danger of living with two faces is that, after a while, lying can begin to feel normal.
First, you know you are lying.
Then you justify the lie.
Then you repeat it.
And eventually, you begin to live as though it were the truth.
Jesus said concerning the devil:
“...for he is a liar, and the father of it.”
(John 8:44)
Lies do not come from God.
When you allow deception to remain in your life, your way of thinking begins to become contaminated. Eventually, you are no longer lying only with your words; you begin building relationships, decisions, and behaviors around what is not true.
A double life begins with a heart that has stopped loving the truth.
Having a Form of Godliness Is Not the Same as Living With God
The Bible warned us about the character many people would display in the last days:
“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.”
(2 Timothy 3:1)
It then describes attitudes such as selfishness, ingratitude, disobedience, lack of self-control, and loving pleasures more than loving God (2 Timothy 3:1–4).
Then it says something even more serious:
“Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.”
(2 Timothy 3:5)
Notice: a form of godliness.
They appear to be one thing, but live another way.
They talk about God, but their actions contradict what they say.
They know the language of the church, but they do not allow the Word to transform their character.
Appearances may deceive people, but they can never replace a genuine relationship with God.
Do Not Allow Others to Contaminate Your Heart
You also need to be careful about whom you walk with.
Not everyone you call a friend is helping you draw closer to God. Some relationships slowly begin to change the way you speak, think, and behave.
At first, you may say, “I would never do that.”
Then you begin to tolerate it.
Later, you participate in it.
And eventually, you find yourself defending what you once knew was wrong.
That is why you must guard your heart.
Daniel Decided Not to Defile Himself
Daniel arrived in Babylon surrounded by a completely different culture. He could have used his environment as an excuse to abandon his principles.
But he made a decision:
“But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself...”
(Daniel 1:8)
The decision began in his heart.
Daniel did not need to become someone else in order to survive in Babylon. He did not abandon his convictions in order to be accepted. He remained firm alongside his companions and continued honoring God.
That is integrity: being the same person before God, before others, and when no one is watching.
Do Not Lose Your Principles Just to Belong
Some people change depending on who is around them.
With some people, they talk about God.
With others, they talk like the world.
At church, they behave one way.
At home, they behave another.
Around certain friends, they completely abandon their principles.
How long will this continue?
The Word asks:
“And what communion hath light with darkness?”
(2 Corinthians 6:14)
You cannot desire to walk in the light while continually choosing what leads you toward darkness.
There are friendships, conversations, and environments you may need to walk away from if they continually contaminate your heart.
Do not call something friendship when it is leading you away from God.
One Face, One Heart
God did not call you to live your life playing different characters.
You do not need one personality for church, another for your family, and another for your friends.
You need one heart of integrity before God.
If you have been living by appearances, you can still change.
If you have been speaking lies, begin speaking the truth.
If your behavior outside the church contradicts what you profess inside of it, correct it.
If certain relationships are changing your principles, make a decision.
Do not wait until what you are hiding today ends up destroying your testimony, your family, or your relationship with God.
True integrity begins when you decide to be before people the same person you are before God.
Christ is coming soon.
This is not the time to maintain a form of godliness. It is time to live in truth, guard your heart, and remain firm like Daniel, even when others have chosen to live differently.
“Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.”
(2 Timothy 2:7)
👉 Today, ask yourself: Am I the same person inside the church, at home, and when no one is watching? Do not live with two faces. Choose to love the truth, guard your heart, and hold firmly to your principles. God is not looking for appearances; He is looking for a life of integrity before Him.
