What Caused Your Fire to Go Out?

Have you grown spiritually cold? What happened in your heart? At what point did you lose interest in the things of God?

Perhaps it began when you started listening to negative comments about God, the Church, or His Word. People who talk about God without truly knowing Him, repeating things they do not understand and eventually planting doubt, criticism, and resentment in others.

The Word warns:

“The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the LORD.” (Proverbs 19:3)

There are people who make wrong decisions, turn away from God’s principles, and then blame Him for the consequences. Little by little, their hearts become hardened, and their spiritual fire begins to go out.

The question is: Have you allowed this to happen to you?

When Love Begins to Grow Cold

Jesus warned that a time would come when wickedness would become so widespread that it would even affect people’s hearts:

“And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.” (Matthew 24:12)

Notice that Jesus described a process: love grows cold.

A person may begin by loving God, seeking His presence, listening to His Word, and desiring to please Him. But when they continually allow unbelief, sin, criticism, and wrong thoughts to enter, that fire begins to diminish.

There is no longer the same desire to pray.

There is no longer the same hunger for the Word.

There is no longer the same desire to gather with other believers.

Spiritual things begin to seem less important.

And what once troubled you spiritually now begins to seem normal.

That is a warning sign.

Do not allow what has become normal to the world to become normal to you.

Be Careful What You Listen To

Not everyone who talks about God knows God.

There are people who speak about things they do not understand, mock spiritual matters, and attack the truth because they have never taken the time to know it.

Jude warned:

“But these speak evil of those things which they know not...” (Jude 1:10)

That is why you must guard what you allow into your heart.

One conversation can sow unbelief.

One comment can produce resentment.

An opinion repeated continually can become a stronghold in your mind.

Do not allow the opinion of someone who does not know God to determine what you believe about Him.

Turn your heart back to believing in God and believing God.

Have You Become Insensitive?

One of the greatest spiritual dangers is becoming accustomed to things that once troubled us.

When a person begins practicing what is wrong without conviction, lying easily, feeding resentment, justifying sinful behavior, and despising the things of God, their heart begins to lose its sensitivity.

They may then begin creating chaos in their own home without recognizing that they are contributing to the problem.

Decisions made apart from God do not affect only one person. They can affect marriages, children, and entire generations.

That is why you must ask yourself:

What is my spiritual condition producing in my home?

Peace or conflict?

Faith or unbelief?

Unity or division?

Love or coldness?

You cannot allow your heart to grow cold and expect everything around you to remain unaffected.

Jesus Is Still Knocking at the Door

Perhaps you walked away.

Perhaps you lost interest.

Perhaps you allowed too many voices into your life.

Perhaps your heart became hardened.

But Christ is still knocking.

Jesus said:

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” (Revelation 3:20)

The door represents your heart.

Jesus is not saying that there is no longer an opportunity. On the contrary: He is knocking because you can still open the door.

You can return.

You can restore your fellowship with God.

You can hear His voice again.

You can rekindle what was beginning to go out.

But you must open the door.

Return to the Word

How can you begin?

Return to the Word.

Scripture declares:

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful...” (Hebrews 4:12)

The Word is not dead.

The Word speaks.

The Word confronts.

The Word corrects.

The Word reveals what is happening within the heart.

The Word rekindles faith when you have allowed unbelief to extinguish it.

So do not fill your mind only with opinions, social media, comments, criticism, and conversations that do not edify. Make room to hear God.

If you want to recover your spiritual sensitivity, you must expose yourself again to what produces life.

Beware of Mockers

The Bible also warns us about the last days:

“There should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.” (Jude 1:18)

It also tells us that these are those who cause divisions (Jude 1:19).

Mocking God is nothing new.

There will be those who mock faith, holiness, the Church, the Word, and those who choose to live for Christ.

Do not allow their unbelief to become your unbelief.

You do not need to follow every voice.

You need to recognize the voice of God.

Build Up Your Faith Again

Jude does not only warn us about the danger; he also tells us what to do:

“But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.” (Jude 1:20)

If your fire has gone out, start building again.

If you stopped praying, pray again.

If you abandoned the Word, return to it.

If you lost the desire to gather with other believers, come back.

If you allowed other people’s opinions to contaminate your heart, listen to the truth again.

Do not wait until you are completely broken before seeking God.

Begin now.

Keep Yourself in the Love of God

The instruction continues:

“Keep yourselves in the love of God...” (Jude 1:21)

Do not allow wickedness to cool what God once ignited.

Do not allow an offense to drive you away.

Do not allow a bad experience to define your relationship with God.

Do not allow other people’s words to have greater authority in your heart than the Word of God.

If something caused your fire to go out, identify what it was and remove it from your life.

Turn your heart back to God.

Christ is alive. His Word is alive. His love has not changed.

What Caused Your Fire to Go Out?

Today, you need to answer that question.

Was it an offense?

A disappointment?

Sin?

Someone’s opinion?

Unbelief?

Wrong conversations?

Spiritual neglect?

Whatever it may be, do not allow it to continue ruling your life.

Christ is coming soon.

This is not the time to live spiritually cold. It is time to wake up, return to the Word, build up your faith, and keep yourself in the love of God.

“Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.” (2 Timothy 2:7)

👉 If something caused your relationship with God to grow cold, today you can rekindle that fire. Close your ears to voices that feed unbelief and open your heart to the living Word of God. Christ is still knocking at the door. Hear His voice, open your heart, and walk with Him again.
