Have You Surrendered Your Heart to God?

God makes a very direct request:

“My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.”
(Proverbs 23:26)

God is not asking for only a part of your life. He wants your heart, because from it come your thoughts, decisions, desires, and actions. The question is: Have you truly surrendered it to Him, or are you still trying to direct it yourself?

You may think you are capable of guarding your own heart, always making the right choices, and determining for yourself which path you should take. However, Jesus gave us a truth we cannot ignore:

“Without me ye can do nothing.”
(John 15:5)

When a person tries to live apart from God, sooner or later they lose their direction. They may continue walking, but that does not mean they are moving in the right direction.

Who Is Governing Your Heart?

It is time to decide to whom you will surrender your heart.

God wants it so He can guard it, transform it, and direct it. The devil also seeks access to it, but his purpose is completely different: to deceive, contaminate, and destroy through lies.

Jesus said concerning the devil:

“...for he is a liar, and the father of it.”
(John 8:44)

The enemy does not need to present an entire life of destruction to you all at once. It is enough for him to get you to accept one lie, then another, until you begin to believe that you can live far from God and still be fine.

That is why God says: “Give me thine heart.”

Not because He wants to take something good away from you, but because He wants to protect what you do not know how to protect on your own.

Give Him Your Heart and Look to His Ways

Proverbs 23:26 does not end by simply saying, “Give me thine heart.” It also says:

“...and let thine eyes observe my ways.”

After surrendering your heart, you also need to change where you are looking.

There are people who say they belong to God, yet they continue fixing their eyes on things that do not please Him. They want a heart for God while their eyes continue searching for the ways of the world.

But surrendering your heart also means changing direction.

Walking in the ways of God means living in obedience to His will, developing a relationship with Him, and learning to walk according to His love and His truth.

It is not simply about saying, “I believe in God.” It is about allowing that relationship to transform the way you live.

Stop Walking Down Your Own Paths

You can become so accustomed to going in the wrong direction that eventually it begins to feel normal.

One bad decision leads to another. One accepted lie makes room for another. A wrong attitude that is never corrected eventually becomes a way of life.

But God can still straighten your path.

“In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
(Proverbs 3:6)

Notice that Scripture says, “in all thy ways.”

Not only at church.

Not only when you have problems.

Not only when you need an answer.

Acknowledge Him in your family, your marriage, your decisions, your words, your thoughts, and your plans.

God does not want to be merely a part of your journey; He wants to direct it.

Christ Is the Way

Jesus did not simply say that He knew the way. He declared:

“I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
(John 14:6)

If Christ is the Way, then you do not need to invent another one.

If Christ is the Truth, you do not need to live believing the enemy’s lies.

If Christ is the Life, you do not need to remain spiritually empty, searching for life where there is none.

The purpose of the Way is to bring you to the Father. Therefore, the closer you draw to Christ, the clearer the direction you should follow becomes.

You Need a New and Clean Heart

There are things that cannot be fixed simply by changing your environment, your friendships, or your circumstances.

You need God to work in your heart.

David came to understand this. After recognizing his mistakes, he stopped justifying what he had done and cried out:

“Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.”
(Psalm 51:1)

Later, he made an even deeper request:

“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
(Psalm 51:10)

David understood something important: he did not simply need to feel better; he needed an inward change.

There is a great difference.

Emotions can make you cry today and return to the same behavior tomorrow. You can feel remorse and continue walking down the same path. You can become emotional during a message and then return to the same habits.

Emotion alone does not transform the heart.

Do Not Live by Appearances

You can appear to be fine while your heart is filled with conflict.

You can smile in front of people while being broken inside.

You can talk about God while continuing to make decisions without Him.

You can know Bible verses and still resist surrendering what God is asking of you.

Appearances do not transform the heart.

God is not looking for an outward presentation. He wants truth in the inward parts.

That is why true repentance is not simply feeling bad about what happened. It means recognizing what is wrong, coming to God, and allowing Him to change the direction of your life.

Let God Take Care of You

Perhaps you have spent a long time trying in your own strength to fix what only God can put in order.

You have tried to direct your own heart.

You have followed your own paths.

You have made decisions based on emotions.

You have tried to fix outwardly what needs to be transformed inwardly.

Today, you can do something different: truly surrender your heart to God.

Not only your problems.

Not only your needs.

Not only what you cannot solve.

Your heart.

Give Him your thoughts, decisions, desires, plans, and ways. Allow His Word to cleanse what needs to be cleansed and His truth to straighten what has become crooked.

Do not continue walking down your own paths when Christ has already shown you the Way.

Christ is coming soon.

It is time to leave appearances behind, cleanse your heart with the truth, and walk in obedience. God can do what you cannot do for yourself: create a clean heart, renew you from within, and direct your steps along the right path.

“Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.”
(2 Timothy 2:7)

👉 Today, ask yourself: Have I truly surrendered my heart to God, or have I only surrendered my problems to Him? Do not wait until you lose your way to seek His direction. Give Him your heart, fix your eyes on His ways, and allow Him to direct your paths.
